BOISE, ID – The Idaho Educational Services for the Deaf and the Blind (IESDB) is accepting applications for a new administrator to lead its statewide efforts in serving students with hearing and vision impairments. The position will replace current Administrator Brian Darcy, who is departing to become executive director of the New York Institute for Special Education later this summer.
The IESDB administrator leads both the state agency and the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind, a residential campus located in Gooding that has served students from preschool through 12th grade since 1906. The role includes on-campus housing at no cost to the administrator.
“This is truly one of the most unique roles in education that Idaho has to offer,” said Debbie Critchfield, Idaho Superintendent of Public Instruction and IESDB Board Chair. “Only nine states in the country provide combined services for both visually and hearing impaired students, making this a rare and meaningful opportunity.”
Candidates should have a master’s degree in special education, administration, or a related field, as well as a minimum of five years of leadership experience in a program for deaf or blind individuals. Sign language skills or a willingness to learn are preferred.
