POMEROY, WA — Deputies from the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of domestic violence that escalated into a dangerous situation involving gunfire at the Hi-Way Trailer Park in Pomeroy on the evening of June 11, 2025.
According to the sheriff’s office, the incident began around 8:00 p.m. when 911 received a call reporting a domestic dispute between an adult male and female outside a residence at the trailer park, located at 299 Highway 12 W. Witnesses reported that several adult and juvenile family members fled the scene after the man went back into the residence, retrieved a firearm, and began shooting in their direction.
Deputies arriving at the scene could hear shots being fired. They worked quickly to evacuate residents of the trailer park as the suspect, identified as 54-year-old Gary M. Miller, was seen moving between trailers with a rifle in hand.
Law enforcement successfully negotiated Miller’s surrender without further violence. He was taken into custody and transported to the Whitman County Jail. Miller faces multiple charges, including Assault in the 1st Degree Domestic Violence, two counts of Malicious Mischief in the 2nd Degree, and Assault in the 4th Degree Domestic Violence.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and authorities credit the swift actions of deputies with preventing harm to nearby residents. The investigation is ongoing.
