HINES, OR – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will host a three-day, in-person adoption event June 25–27 at the Oregon Wild Horse Corral Facility in Hines, offering the public a chance to adopt young wild horses from public lands in Oregon.

The event will feature 10 yearlings from the South Steens Herd Management Area and 15 geldings, all five years old or younger, from the Murderer’s Creek Wild Horse Territory. It will be the first in-person adoption opportunity for these horses since they were gathered in 2024.

Adopter registration and viewing will be open Wednesday, June 25, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The adoption will run Thursday and Friday, June 26 and 27, starting at 9 a.m. each day. Adoptions will be first-come, first-served for registered and approved applicants. Interested individuals are encouraged to apply in advance at wildhorsesonline.blm.gov/HowToGuide or by emailing cpresley@blm.gov.

“These mustangs are looking for safe, caring homes,” said Facility Manager Kayce Faulkner. “They’re tough, smart, full of heart. And they make great partners whether you’re working, riding, or just spending time with them.”

The South Steens horses are known for their distinctive coloring and strong conformation, while the Murderer’s Creek horses are typically bay, black, or brown with smaller, saddle-type builds. The adoption fee is $125.

The Oregon Wild Horse Corral Facility is located at 26755 US-20 in Hines.

The BLM’s Wild Horse and Burro Program manages wild herds across the western United States through a combination of gathers, adoptions, and partnerships to ensure both herd and rangeland health.
