WENATCHEE, WA – Deputies with the Benton County Sheriff’s Office arrested two adults and removed a child from unsafe conditions after responding to a disturbance on E 305 PR NE involving suspected drug use and an overdose.
Upon arrival, deputies detained one male for malicious mischief. During the investigation, they learned that a female at the scene had overdosed earlier that morning and was revived with Narcan. Authorities were also informed that the child’s father had previously been found unconscious, surrounded by fentanyl and other drug paraphernalia.
Deputies located the 7-year-old child living with the two adults in the back of a disabled 2007 Chevy Silverado. One adult initially claimed to have suffered a seizure, but the other later admitted it was a fentanyl overdose and confirmed both were active narcotics users.
Statements from multiple individuals indicated the child had been routinely exposed to drug use in the vehicle. Combined with the unsafe and unsanitary living conditions, deputies determined the child was at immediate risk.
Both adults were arrested for Child Endangerment with a Controlled Substance (RCW 9A.42.100). The child was placed into protective custody and transferred to Child Protective Services in Richland. The vehicle was impounded for a pending narcotics-related search warrant.
