LAPWAI, ID – The Nez Perce Tribal Executive Committee (NPTEC) will hold a special session on June 24, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. at the Tribe’s Am’sáaxpa property, also known as the Place of Boulders, in Joseph, Oregon.

This gathering is part of a series of off-site meetings authorized in 2024 to bring NPTEC governance to different locations tied to Nez Perce operations. The event will include invited participation from regional leaders, community partners, and other governmental organizations.

NPTEC Chairman Shannon F. Wheeler noted the significance of conducting government business throughout the Tribe’s ancestral lands. “Stewardship of Treaty-reserved resources through cooperation with our partners is a central responsibility,” Wheeler said.

Vice-Chairman Ashton Picard, who initiated the move to meet in Wallowa, emphasized the broader importance. “By holding council in our western homeland, we reaffirm our commitment to all parts of our territory and future generations,” he said.
