WHITMAN COUNTY, WA – Hiking Kamiak Butte County Park North of Pullman reopens Wednesday but camping will remain closed.
The park has been closed for a month so crews can install a new water system. The Whitman County Parks Department reports on Facebook that crews are still working on the project. Officials have decided that it’s safe to reopen the butte’s parking lots and trails on Wednesday while the work continues.
With no water at Kamiak Butte the campground will remain closed and there is a burn ban in effect for the park. County officials haven’t announced when camping will reopen. The Kamiak Butte campground has been closed for two months. The entire park was initially scheduled to reopen on Wednesday.
