CLARKSTON, WA – A 68-year-old Wyoming man accused of a stabbing at the Clarkston Motel 6 earlier this month has been extradited to Asotin County. Thomas Krogman, of Gillette, Wyoming, was booked into the Asotin County Jail at about 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Krogman is charged with attempted first-degree murder in connection with the June 2 attack. Authorities allege he traveled from northeast Wyoming to Clarkston and assaulted his brother-in-law at the motel on Bridge Street.
72-year-old Daniel Henry, who works as the motel manager, told police he did not initially recognize Krogman, as they had not seen each other in years. Officers responding to the scene found Henry outside the motel with multiple stab wounds to the head and torso. He was transported to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, where he was admitted for treatment.
Surveillance video reportedly captured a man matching Krogman’s description entering the motel lobby wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, a hat, dark pants, and dark shoes. Krogman allegedly greeted Henry and asked, “Remember me?” before pulling him forward and stabbing him eight times.
After the assault, Krogman allegedly fled the scene in a maroon 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. Investigators later used license plate reader cameras in Lewiston to identify the vehicle as registered to Krogman in Wyoming. Authorities say the vehicle traveled from Wyoming to the Lewiston-Clarkston area shortly before the incident and returned to Wyoming shortly afterward.
Court documents suggest the motive may stem from a decades-old family dispute involving allegations of sexual abuse. Henry told police his sister had called him the day before the attack and brought up the alleged abuse.
On June 4, multiple law enforcement agencies in Wyoming reviewed surveillance footage and confirmed the suspect resembled Krogman. The Asotin County Prosecutor’s Office then filed for an arrest warrant, which was granted with no bond, citing the severity of the charges and Krogman’s flight risk.
Before his extradition, Krogman was held at the Campbell County Detention Center in Gillette, Wyoming. He is expected to appear in Asotin County Court on Wednesday.
