BOISE, ID – Senate Bill 1105 passed the Idaho Legislature this year, which revises provisions regarding the increasingly popular “Don’t Tread on Me” license plates, a symbol that has become synonymous with patriotism and personal freedoms.

The plates, available now, feature the iconic Gadsden flag design with a coiled rattlesnake and the phrase “Don’t Tread on Me,” prominently displayed.

This year’s legislation introduced a new $35 fee for initial plate issuance and a $25 annual renewal fee. A portion of these funds—$22 from the initial fee and $12 from renewals—will be allocated to the Firearms Safety Grant Fund, which supports firearms safety education programs throughout the state.

The bill also stipulates that an additional $13 from each initial fee and renewal fee will be deposited into the state highway account, specifically to fund the administration of the license plate program itself.

Senate Bill 1105 included changes to Idaho’s firearms safety education initiatives, specifically calling for increased funding and support through grants for primary and secondary school programs. These programs are designed to teach firearm safety to Idaho students, with funding provided by the Firearms Safety Grant Fund, which will be administered by the newly established Idaho Firearms Safety Education Committee. The committee is tasked with awarding grants to school districts that wish to establish or maintain such courses.
