‘Everyone is welcome here’ teacher takes Boise School District job

BOISE, ID – Sarah Inama, the teacher at the heart of the “Everyone is Welcome Here” controversy, has accepted a teaching position at Boise School District’s East Junior High School, and will begin there Aug. 4.

“I’m so grateful to be able to work within a district that knows the beauty of inclusion and diversity and doesn’t for a second consider it an opinion but embraces it,” Inama wrote in a statement to EdNews. “As an educator, it’s an amazing feeling to know your (district’s) officials, board, and administrators fully uphold the fundamentals of public education and (have) the dignity to proudly support them. I really feel at home knowing we are truly all on the same team … and that’s a team that is rooting on all of our students.”

Dan Hollar, a Boise School District public affairs administrator, said the district is “proud to welcome Ms. Inama, as well as all the many talented educators and support staff joining our team for the 2025-2026 school year.”

“Together, we look forward to a year of growth, collaboration, and excellence in education,” he wrote in an email to EdNews.

Inama, a former teacher at Lewis and Clark Middle School in the West Ada School District, resigned after district officials pushed her to remove classroom posters promoting inclusivity. Inama declined to remove a poster that said “Everyone is Welcome Here” and shared her story with local media.

The controversy garnered national attention and sparked public backlash against the district directive. Educators statewide, including Boise School District administrators, showed their support for Inama by wearing “Everyone is Welcome Here” shirts.

West Ada has continued to stand by its position that the posters were inappropriate.

Inama announced her resignation from Lewis and Clark in early May, but stayed on through the school year.

Asked whether she would be putting up both of her inclusive signs in her new classroom, Inama said: “Yes and yes.”
