Fatal Crash on I-90 Near 4th of July Pass Under Investigation

KOOTENAI COUNTY, ID – The Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday afternoon, June 22, on eastbound Interstate 90 near milepost 29 at 4th of July Pass.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at approximately 3:26 p.m. when the driver of a Coachmen Leprechaun motorhome, a 71-year-old man from Mandan, North Dakota, suffered a medical emergency while traveling eastbound. The vehicle left the roadway, went up an embankment, and overturned.

Emergency crews extricated the driver from the vehicle and transported him via LifeFlight to a local hospital. Despite efforts, he later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released, but next of kin have been notified. A 72-year-old passenger, also from Mandan, was uninjured.

The crash blocked the roadway for about an hour as emergency responders worked at the scene. The Idaho State Police continue to investigate.
