SPOKANE, WA — Three Washington State Patrol (WSP) troopers have been identified as involved in a critical incident that occurred on June 15, 2025, at the intersection of E. Trent Avenue and N. Pines Road in Spokane County. The incident also included a deputy from the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office.

According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, the troopers discharged their firearms during the encounter. The troopers have been identified as Jordan Berezay, Alek Black, and Dallas Slemp.

In accordance with Washington State Initiative 940 and Substitute House Bill 1064, an independent investigation is now underway. These laws mandate that any incident involving the use of deadly force by law enforcement resulting in death, substantial bodily harm, or great bodily harm must be investigated by a team completely independent of the involved agency.

The Spokane Independent Investigative Response (SIIR) Team, led by the Spokane Police Department, has taken over the investigation. Per Washington Administrative Code 139-12, no criminal history or initial contact details related to the individual involved in the incident will be released unless specifically requested under the Public Records Act.
