GREER, ID — The Old Greer Fire remained at 78 acres on Saturday as fire crews continued containment efforts in steep, rugged terrain. The fire, located across the river from Greer in Lewis County, was first reported on Wednesday, June 25, at approximately 8:30 p.m. Officials have determined the cause to be lightning.
Firefighters worked throughout Saturday using helicopters to target hotspots, with 160 personnel currently assigned to the incident. Resources on scene include six engines, three bulldozers, and three water tenders.
The Idaho Department of Lands, U.S. Forest Service, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association are collaborating on suppression operations. Crews are constructing direct containment lines, installing hose lays and pumps, and continuing structure protection efforts.
Old Greer Grade remains closed due to fire activity. There are currently no evacuation orders, but five structures remain threatened.
Officials say fire crews are working to stay ahead of a warming weather trend expected early next week. The fire area remains under active monitoring and suppression efforts.
