GREER, ID — Firefighters continue to battle the Old Greer Fire in Lewis County, where two separate wildfires have merged and are now burning approximately 75 acres. Despite challenging terrain, retardant drops overnight helped prevent further spread, and crews remain focused on containment efforts.
The fire, located across the river from the community of Greer, was first reported Thursday evening around 8:30 p.m. As of Friday morning, five structures remain threatened. However, no evacuations have been ordered at this time.
According to the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL), Old Greer Road has been closed by the Lewis County Sheriff due to active fire behavior. A total of 50 fire personnel are on site, supported by three bulldozers, two water tenders, six engines, and a helicopter working to suppress hot spots. Additional firefighting resources are expected to arrive later today.
Efforts are being coordinated by IDL in collaboration with the U.S. Forest Service, the Nez Perce Tribe, and the Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protection Association. Crews are navigating steep and rugged terrain to construct containment lines and protect threatened structures.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
