Police Respond to Report of Travis Decker Sighting West of Tri-Cities

PROSSER, WA — Authorities responded swiftly to a report of a potential sighting of triple homicide suspect Travis Decker on Saturday afternoon, but the man seen was ultimately determined not to be Decker.

According to the Prosser Police Department, a motorist reported seeing a male who resembled Decker near Wine Country Road and Exit 82 at approximately 1:00 p.m. Multiple law enforcement units converged on the area and established a containment perimeter. A drone was deployed, and a police K9 was used in the search effort.

The individual matching the suspect’s description was located in a clump of trees. After further investigation, officers confirmed the man was not Travis Decker.

Decker, 32, has been the subject of an intensive search since May 30, when he failed to return his three young daughters to their mother following a scheduled custody visit. On June 2, the bodies of the girls were discovered at a campsite in the Cascade Mountains. Investigators also found a man’s blood at the scene that was confirmed this week to belong to Decker.

Authorities believe Decker may be utilizing his significant military survival training to avoid capture. Court records indicate concerns about Decker’s mental health had been raised by the girls’ mother, Whitney Decker, who sought to modify their parenting plan in September 2024, citing increasing instability.

The search for Decker remains ongoing.
