Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Central Washington’s Yakima Valley

OUTLOOK, WA – The Yakima Valley Special Investigations Unit has launched an independent investigation into an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday morning in the rural Outlook area of Yakima County.

According to an initial press release from the Washington State Patrol, Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputies responded around 11:40 a.m. on June 28 to a report of a domestic violence incident at a residence near 2600 Van Belle Road. The report indicated a male subject at the location was armed with a firearm.

When deputies arrived and contacted a man near the residence, a critical incident involving the use of force occurred. Details about the nature of the encounter or any injuries have not been released.

The YVSIU was activated to handle the investigation, in accordance with Washington state law requiring independent investigations in cases involving potential deadly force by law enforcement officers. The Washington State Patrol is managing the case and will provide weekly updates per state regulations, even if no new information becomes available.

No additional information, including the identity of the individual involved or any criminal background, is being released at this time. The investigation remains in its early stages.

The incident falls under Washington’s Initiative 940 and Substitute House Bill 1064, which mandate independent investigations of law enforcement uses of deadly force when resulting in serious harm or death. The ongoing investigation is being conducted independently from the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
