ASOTIN COUNTY, WA — The Asotin County Board of Commissioners has enacted an emergency ordinance suspending all fires, open burning, and fireworks in the unincorporated areas of the county, effective at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5.
Citing unusually hot and dry conditions and an increased fire hazard, the Board unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2025-28 this morning. The ban applies to all areas outside the city limits of Clarkston and Asotin.
What’s Prohibited:

All fires, open burning, and use of fireworks are suspended until further notice.
What’s Allowed:

Campfires within designated fire pits at Chief Timothy Park (island only), unless a Washington State-wide burn ban is enacted.

Propane fire rings, propane grills, and charcoal barbecues.
Penalties:

First offense: $200 fine (minimum $100 not deferrable)

Second offense: $500 fine (minimum $300 not deferrable)

Third offense: Up to $1,000 (minimum $500 not deferrable)

Fourth offense: Up to $10,000 (minimum $1,000 not deferrable)

Each day of a continuing violation constitutes a separate offense.
The ordinance also authorizes recovery of fire suppression costs and investigative expenses in cases of illegal burns.
Note on Fireworks:
Fireworks may still be discharged on July 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on July 4 from 11:00 a.m. to midnight. However, all fireworks use will be prohibited starting July 5 at 6:00 a.m.
