Man Arrested for Fleeing Clarkston Traffic Stop, Driving Recklessly into Idaho

CLARKSTON, WA – A man wanted on multiple warrants was arrested and booked into the Asotin County Jail on Sunday.  While still being detained at the jail, the same man was arrested again after authorities identified him as the driver who fled from a March traffic stop in Washington and crossed into Idaho at high speeds.

According to a probable cause affidavit, 30-year-old Ryan Kenneth Schlieper was interviewed at the jail by a deputy who had attempted to stop his vehicle months earlier. During that initial incident, Schlieper allegedly fled in a blue 2008 Nissan Sentra after the deputy activated emergency lights for a traffic stop on Walk Lane near Clarkston.

Deputies said the vehicle accelerated to approximately 60 miles per hour in a residential 25 MPH zone, ran multiple stop signs, and failed to yield despite the use of lights and sirens. Due to the reckless nature of the driving and the speed, the pursuing deputy discontinued the chase. However, moments later the suspect vehicle was spotted again heading east across the Southway Bridge into Lewiston.

Investigators were later able to retrieve dash camera footage of the vehicle and identify the license plate as Idaho registration N11370. A records check confirmed the car was registered to Schlieper, who also had several active warrants, including a felony warrant out of Washington.

When interviewed at the jail, Schlieper reportedly admitted to being the driver during the March incident and said he fled because he panicked and didn’t want the vehicle’s other occupants to be pulled over. He told authorities he parked the car near a boat launch in Lewiston and walked away.

Schlieper was booked on one count of felony Attempt to Elude a Pursuing Police Vehicle under Washington law. He remained in custody at the Asotin County Jail on Monday morning.
