GREER, ID — Fire crews have made significant progress on the Old Greer Fire, with containment now at 25% while the total acreage remains at approximately 78. Firefighters spent Sunday installing hose lays and mopping up hot spots in preparation for a warming trend expected this week.
Located across the river from Greer in Lewis County, the fire was first reported at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25. It was caused by lightning and is being managed as one incident, despite consisting of two closely situated but separate fires.
Old Greer Grade remains closed due to active firefighting efforts. There are still no evacuation orders in place, but five structures remain threatened.
A total of 160 personnel are engaged in suppression operations, representing the Idaho Department of Lands, U.S. Forest Service, Nez Perce Tribe, and Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association. Ground resources on the fire include six engines, three bulldozers, and three water tenders. Aerial support remains available and is being deployed as needed.
Crews will continue to work on strengthening containment lines and monitoring conditions as temperatures begin to rise.
