Repairs to Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge Begin This Week in Pullman

PULLMAN, WA — The City of Pullman is set to begin Phase 1 of repairs to the Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge this week, following the receipt of all required permits and permissions.

Work will begin Monday, June 30, with crews preparing the area by removing tables from Pine Street Plaza and placing large rocks in the river to reinforce the bank.

On Tuesday, July 1, construction activity will ramp up. Pine Street Plaza and the sidewalk connecting Olsen/Kamiaken to the Plaza will be closed. Businesses such as Mela and Thomas Hammer will remain accessible via Main Street, and the Main Street bus stop will stay open.

Traffic disruptions are expected throughout the day as heavy machinery is moved into the area:

  • The block of Pine Street between Paradise Street and Main Street will be closed in 30-minute intervals for equipment staging.
  • Main Street traffic will be intermittently halted at the Pine Street intersection for up to ten minutes at a time.

On Wednesday, July 2, crews will complete any remaining work from Tuesday and begin cleaning up the area. Additional traffic delays may occur as equipment is removed.

The City anticipates reopening Pine Street Plaza and the adjacent sidewalk by noon on Thursday, July 3—well in advance of the scheduled Music on Main event.

Officials note that the timeline is subject to change and updates will be provided as needed. Information on Phase 2 of the project is expected next week.
