LEWISTON, ID – City officials are reminding residents to stay alert when approached by door-to-door solicitors, following an uptick in reports of individuals operating without proper licensing.
The City of Lewiston requires all door-to-door solicitors to hold both a valid business license and a solicitor license before engaging in any promotional or sales activities within city limits. Licensed solicitors must carry and display a city-issued identification badge at all times.
The official badge includes the solicitor’s name, photo, badge number, company name, issue and expiration dates, and the City of Lewiston logo. The back of the badge lists restrictions and penalties. Solicitors are required to show their ID upon request.
Residents who encounter individuals refusing to show identification or who appear to be unlicensed are advised not to engage and to report the activity to the Lewiston Police Department’s non-emergency line at 208-746-0171.
The city also emphasized that residents are under no obligation to open their doors to solicitors and are encouraged to report suspicious behavior.
Those wishing to legally solicit door-to-door must apply for the appropriate licenses through the Community Development Department. More information and applications are available at id-lewistoncity.civicplus.com/255/Business-Licensing or by calling 208-746-1318.
Residents can also review the city’s regulations under City Code Chapter 21, Article V.
