Idaho State Police Adds 20 Years of Crime Data to Online Dashboard

Idaho State Police

MERIDIAN, ID – The Idaho Statistical Analysis Center (ISAC), a division of the Idaho State Police, has announced the latest update to its Crime in Idaho Data Dashboard, now offering users access to two decades of statewide crime statistics, covering the years 2005 through 2024.

According to the updated data, Idaho’s total offense rate in 2024 dropped 4.2% compared to 2023, reaching a new low of 49.6 offenses per 1,000 residents. This marks a 49% decrease from the 2005 rate of 97.4 offenses per 1,000 residents.

The most significant long-term declines were observed in:

  • Crimes against property: down 66% since 2005

  • Group B offenses (e.g., DUI, disorderly conduct): down 59%

  • Crimes against persons: down 35%

One notable exception was the increase in crimes against society, which rose 33% since 2005—primarily due to a 37% increase in drug-related offenses. Still, that rate fell 11% between 2023 and 2024.

In total, 98,891 offenses were recorded statewide in 2024—the first time since at least 2005 that the annual number dropped below 100,000. This total reflects a 4% drop from 2023 and a 29% decrease from 2005.

While intimate partner violence saw a 3% increase in 2024 from the previous year, its rate remains 34% lower than in 2005. Similarly, the sexual assault rate remained relatively flat year-over-year, down just 0.1% from 2023.

The Crime in Idaho Data Dashboard provides public access to statewide and county-level statistics, including victim and offender demographics, incident timing, and arrest data. It draws from the Idaho Incident-Based Reporting System and is updated annually around July 1.
