PULLMAN, WA — Pullman City Councilmember Trymaine Gaither has announced his resignation from the City Council, effective July 15, 2025.
Gaither, who has represented Ward 1 since his appointment on January 16, 2024, submitted his resignation letter to Mayor Francis Benjamin and fellow councilmembers on July 1. He was appointed to fill the vacancy left when Benjamin was elected mayor.
“Serving Ward 1 has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” Gaither wrote in his resignation letter. “I am proud of the listening sessions we created, the partnerships we forged, and the mindful approach we brought to policymaking. Those successes belong to all of us.”
Gaither stated that his family will be relocating outside the region so their youngest son can access specialized services. “Leaving Pullman is bittersweet,” he wrote. “The friendships, mentoring relationships, and small-town compassion we have experienced here are irreplaceable.”
Mayor Benjamin acknowledged Gaither’s departure with appreciation. “I am sorry to see Councilmember Gaither go. I am grateful for his service to the Pullman community. He will be sorely missed,” he said.
City officials will begin the process of filling the Ward 1 seat following Gaither’s departure, with additional information expected to be released soon.
