RIGGINS, ID – A 4th of July landslide forced the full closure of U.S. Highway 95 at milepost 200.5, between Riggins and Lucile, around 3:30 p.m Friday.
As of 10:00 p.m. Friday, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office reported that all traffic is being turned around at points above and below the slide area.
Late Friday night, officials said that crews from the Idaho Transportation Department are actively working at the site and estimate the road will reopen sometime today, Saturday.
Besides clearing significant debris, the road will need to be evaluated for structural damage from the washout before reopening, say ITD officials.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area until further notice.
