COEUR D’ALENE, ID — Fire crews have fully contained the Nettleton Gulch Fire near Canfield Butte in Coeur d’Alene, with the Idaho Department of Lands reporting 100% containment as of Friday morning. The wildfire burned approximately 23 acres.
Today marks the final update for the incident. Crews are shifting their focus to suppression repair, working to minimize environmental impacts caused by firefighting efforts and begin restoring the affected area. Demobilization of personnel and equipment is also underway.
The fire, reported on June 29, was managed by the North Idaho Type 3 Incident Management Team and will now transition to the Idaho Department of Lands Mica District for continued oversight. Future inquiries should be directed to the district office at (208) 769-1577.
While fire activity has ceased, closures remain in effect for public and firefighter safety. Forest Service lands, roads, and trails west of Fernan Road (FSR 268), west of FSR 1525 and south of Yellow Banks Creek, and south of Hayden Lake remain closed. These restrictions do not apply to FSR 268 or 1535.
Officials also remind the public that possession or use of fireworks is prohibited on federal public lands. With increased holiday traffic expected near lakes and rivers, the public is urged to stay clear of firefighting aircraft and maintain safe distances around any ongoing operations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Idaho State Fire Marshal’s Office, in coordination with IDL and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). A related law enforcement investigation is being conducted by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
