CLARKSTON, WA – Firefighters across the Lewis-Clark Valley were on patrol the evening of July 4, working to quickly respond to any fire activity. According to Asotin County Fire District #1, proactive patrols and favorable weather conditions helped limit fire spread during the holiday.
“For years, local firefighters have taken a proactive approach and patrolled neighborhoods during the Fourth of July to cut down response times and keep spot fires small,” the district said in a press release. “Those efforts paid off last night as firefighters in Asotin County were able to keep several fires to small spot fires.”
Asotin County Fire District #1 Chief Noel Hardin credited the weather as a major factor in limiting fire activity.
“Weather really played in our favor tonight,” Hardin said. “Lower temperatures, no wind, and higher humidity helped keep fire growth to a minimum on various fires tonight.”
No significant property damage was reported. The only injury noted was a minor hand burn.
Hardin also thanked local residents for their caution during the holiday, especially given the dry conditions.
