GRANGEVILLE, ID – A 35-year-old man from Oregon drowned Saturday afternoon while fishing near the Selway Trail in Idaho County.
According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received multiple 911 calls at approximately 3:55 p.m. on July 5 reporting a possible drowning near the Race Creek campground. Callers stated that CPR was in progress when they called.
Witnesses said the man, identified as Ethan Estes of Shady Cove, Oregon, had been fishing when he slipped and fell into the Selway River. A group of bystanders spotted him floating downstream and pulled him from the water in an effort to save him.
Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke later confirmed Estes’ identity.
The sheriff’s office extended its condolences to Estes’ family and thanked those who attempted to help.
