KOOTENAI COUNTY, ID– A three-vehicle collision involving a semi truck early Tuesday morning sent one driver to the hospital and blocked traffic at a major intersection for several hours, according to Idaho State Police.
The crash occurred around 5:15 a.m. on July 8 at the intersection of State Highway 53 and Prairie Avenue. A 48-year-old Hayden man was driving a GMC truck eastbound on SH53 when he ran a red light, colliding with a red Ford Escape and a Kenworth tractor-trailer.
The Ford, driven by a 61-year-old woman from Coeur d’Alene, sustained significant damage. She was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi truck, a 49-year-old man from Troy, Montana, and the driver of the GMC were not transported.
The crash blocked the roadway for approximately four hours while emergency crews responded and cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
