SPOKANE, WA – The Spokane Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) is investigating a series of deliberately set fires that occurred early Tuesday morning, July 8, across multiple locations in the city. Authorities are working to gather evidence and determine whether additional incidents may be connected.
According to officials, the first fire was reported around 4:15 a.m. at the My Fresh Basket grocery store in the 1000 block of West Summit Parkway. Shortly after, crews responded to another fire involving an electric vehicle charging station on the Washington State University Spokane campus, located near Spokane Falls Boulevard and Pine Street. At approximately 4:47 a.m., foliage on a nearby median was found vandalized and burned.
At 5:12 a.m., fire crews were dispatched to a structure fire in the 200 block of East 3rd Avenue. Investigators later determined that three separate structures in that area had been intentionally set on fire.
In total, four structures were deliberately ignited. No injuries were reported in connection with any of the fires, but authorities noted the elevated risk posed by hot, dry, and windy weather conditions.
Spokane Fire Department personnel and police investigators have been at each scene collecting evidence. Police are actively reviewing leads and searching for surveillance footage that may help identify those responsible.
Anyone with potentially relevant surveillance video or information is urged to contact Crime Check at 509-456-2233.
The investigation remains ongoing.
