CLARKSTON, WA — A Clarkston man has pleaded not guilty following a law enforcement investigation into allegations involving sexual abuse of a child.
According to court documents filed by the Clarkston Police Department, 42-year-old Cody J. Matney was arrested June 19. He is facing six felony counts—three for first-degree child abuse and three for first-degree incest, each with a domestic violence enhancement.
The case began after it was reported to police that a child under the age of 12 had shared information indicating that sexual abuse had been occurring for several years. Officers met with the child and a certified child advocacy professional at a secure location. A forensic interview was conducted, during which the child described several incidents in detail. According to the report, the child stated the incidents occurred in various rooms of the home and sometimes lasted for hours.
Matney was later interviewed at the Clarkston Police Department. During the interview, Matney denied any involvement and offered an alternate explanation. Officers noted discrepancies in his responses and placed him under arrest.
Child Protective Services removed the minors from the home and placed them in protective custody.
The affidavit lists three specific incidents said to have occurred between late 2023 and early 2025. Each instance involved alleged unlawful contact, with one occurring during the holiday season, another in the fall, and a third during the early part of the year.
Matney entered a plea of not guilty on Monday. As of Thursday morning, he remained in custody at the Asotin County Jail on $100,000 bond. His next appearance in court is scheduled for July 21.
