LEWISTON, ID — Beginning July 1, 2025, individuals seeking assistance from agencies like Community Action Partnership in North Central Idaho and neighboring Asotin County, Washington, will be required to verify their lawful presence in the United States.
The change comes as a result of Idaho House Bill 135, which mandates that any agency providing food assistance, resource referrals, or coaching services must confirm that participants are lawfully present in the country.
To comply, participants must provide both a Social Security Number and a valid form of identification. Acceptable documents include:
-
An Idaho driver’s license or state-issued ID
-
A valid driver’s license from an approved state (Washington licenses are not approved)
-
U.S. Military ID or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Card
-
Native American tribal documentation
-
Valid U.S. Passport
-
Immigration documents verifying refugee, asylee, or lawful status
Community Action Partnership is urging current and prospective participants to plan ahead and ensure they have proper documentation. Those needing clarification or assistance with the new requirements are encouraged to contact the agency directly.
