Flags to Return to Full Staff Following Firefighters’ Memorial

BOISE, ID — Idaho Governor Brad Little has issued an updated directive stating that all flags are to return to full staff at sunrise on Saturday, July 12, following a period of mourning for two firefighters killed in a recent ambush in North Idaho.

The order honors Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Battalion Chief John Morrison, who were killed in what Governor Little described as a “shocking ambush.” The original directive called for flags to be flown at half-staff beginning June 30 and continuing through the day following the firefighters’ memorial service.

“The entire State of Idaho grieves the profound loss of the firefighters killed in the shocking ambush in North Idaho,” Governor Little said in a statement. “All our public safety officers, especially our firefighters, bravely confront danger on a daily basis but we have never seen a heinous act of violence like this on our firefighters before. This is not Idaho. This indescribable loss is felt deeply by all those in the firefighting community and beyond. Please join Teresa and me as we continue to pray for the victims and their loved ones.”

The Governor’s office confirmed that the flags will be restored to full staff in accordance with Idaho Code 67-820.
