CASSIA COUNTY, ID – A Florida man was killed early Sunday morning in a rollover crash on Interstate 84 just west of Malta, according to the Idaho State Police.
The crash occurred around 6:53 a.m. on July 13 at milepost 222.8. ISP says a 2026 Freightliner, driven by a 57-year-old man from Windermere, Florida, was traveling westbound when it left the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll and block both westbound lanes.
The driver died at the scene from his injuries. A 40-year-old male passenger from Kissimmee, Florida, was transported by ground ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Both occupants were reportedly wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Westbound traffic was fully blocked for approximately four hours as emergency personnel responded.
Responding agencies included the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office, Cassia County EMS, Cassia County Extraction, Declo QRU, Declo Fire, and the Idaho Department of Transportation.
The Idaho State Police is continuing to investigate the incident.
