Toddler Injured by Stray Bullet on Southern Idaho Interstate

MOUNTAIN HOME, ID – A toddler was injured Saturday afternoon when a bullet pierced a vehicle’s windshield on Interstate 84 near milepost 114, east of Mountain Home, according to the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 1:47 p.m. on July 12, Elmore County Sheriff’s Deputies and Elmore County Ambulance responded to the report of an object entering a vehicle and injuring a child. Emergency personnel determined the damage had been caused by a bullet.

The bullet entered through the front windshield and grazed the child in the back seat. The child was transported to St. Luke’s Boise with minor injuries.

Following an investigation, the Sheriff’s Office determined that an individual had been target shooting in the area and that a wayward bullet had struck the vehicle.

As of Monday morning, charges have been filed against the individual responsible. The identities of all parties involved have not been released.
