Man Found Guilty of Child Rape in Asotin County

ASOTIN, WA – A man with a prior conviction for sexually abusing a minor was found guilty on multiple counts of first-degree child rape and incest in Asotin County Superior Court on July 11.

Grant Van Yeaman, 45, was convicted following an investigation that began in 2022 after a 10-year-old girl disclosed to her foster mother that Yeaman had sexually abused her during visits to her biological mother’s home. Court documents say Yeaman was being allowed to visit the home in violation of a protective order.

The documents indicated a restraining order had prohibited Yeaman from having contact with the child due to earlier concerns of sexual abuse. Despite this, investigators say Yeaman visited the home multiple times between April 6 and October 21, 2022, where the abuse allegedly occurred.

Yeaman denied the allegations, telling investigators he had not been in Asotin County during that time and had been living in a sober living facility in Spokane. However, the facility director confirmed to police that Yeaman had been granted overnight leave and that the facility did not have surveillance cameras, contradicting Yeaman’s statements. Investigators also reported that Yeaman’s DNA was found on the child’s bedding.

In addition to being charged with six counts of first-degree child rape, Yeaman was also accused of first-degree incest and felony violation of a protective order. Yeaman was first taken into custody in September of 2023.

In 2003, Yeaman was sentenced to 2 to 10 years in prison for Sexual Abuse of a Minor under the age of 16 in Lewis County, Idaho.

Yeaman’s sentencing in the Asotin County case is scheduled for August 18.
