Juvenile Arrested Following South Hill Hit-and-Run That Critically Injured Jogger

SPOKANE, WA — A 17-year-old male is in custody after allegedly fleeing the scene of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision early Tuesday morning on Spokane’s South Hill.

Spokane Police Department responded around 5:30 a.m. to the area of 49th Avenue and Perry Street following reports of a hit-and-run involving a jogger. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive adult female in the roadway. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

Witnesses reported that the driver of the vehicle fled on foot, leaving behind both the vehicle and a juvenile passenger. Community members provided real-time updates to 911, which helped officers locate the suspect near Highway 195 and Eagle Ridge. He was found barefoot and matched the suspect description.

SPD determined the 17-year-old was the driver and took him into custody. The investigation indicates the victim and a friend were jogging when they were struck, and officers believe speed and impairment were factors in the collision.

The suspect faces charges of vehicular assault, felony hit and run, and driving under the influence. The passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The case remains under investigation.
