Kansas City Chiefs sign guard Trey Smith to record setting four-year, $94M deal

Per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, Kansas City Chiefs guard Trey Smith has finalized a four-year, $94 million extension with $70 million guaranteed. The new deal replaces the franchise tag given to Smith in February, and makes Smith the highest-paid guard in the NFL.

A Pro Bowl selection at right guard in 2024, Smith, 26, was set to earn $23.4 million for 2025 on the franchise tag. The two sides faced a Tuesday deadline to work out a long-term extension to override the one-year deal.

Smith was a sixth-round draft steal in 2021, and has started 80 games — 13 in the playoffs. He tarted 17 games for Kansas City in 2024, where he allowed only a sack and a half. He has only missed one game through four seasons, and is a two-time Super Bowl champion.
