QUINCY, WA — A 48-year-old man from Quincy was found guilty on Wednesday, July 16, following a 5½-day jury trial related to multiple child sexual assault charges stemming from a 2022 investigation.

Derek Hilderbrand was convicted of four counts of Rape of a Child in the First Degree and one count of Child Molestation in the First Degree. The charges involved two children who were known to him, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began in early 2022 and was led by Detective Katrina Ball. The case was prosecuted by Kittitas County Deputy Prosecutor Carlee Bittle.

“This is a terrible and vile case of rape of a child, and the community is safer now that Derek Hilderbrand will be headed to prison,” said Grant County Sheriff Joe Kriete.

Hilderbrand is scheduled for sentencing in August.
