ITD Issues Warning About Scam Texts Demanding Traffic Ticket Payments

BOISE, ID – The Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) is alerting residents to a scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming recipients owe payment for outstanding traffic tickets.

According to ITD, the messages threaten enforcement penalties if payment is not made immediately and include a link to submit funds. Officials emphasize that these messages are not from ITD’s Division of Motor Vehicles and should be ignored.

ITD clarified that it does not send text messages regarding unpaid traffic tickets, does not demand immediate payment, and does not use threatening language or unfamiliar website links.

To avoid becoming a victim of the scam, ITD advises residents not to click on suspicious links or share personal or payment information. Anyone receiving such a message is encouraged to report it to the Federal Trade Commission and delete it.
