Sex Offender That Escaped Capture in North Idaho Arrested in New Orleans

COEUR D’ALENE, ID – A Florida sex offender who eluded capture for more than a year was arrested this week in downtown New Orleans, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Christian Bert Fischer, 42, was taken into custody by the Louisiana State Police and New Orleans Police Department on Thursday evening. He initially provided an alias but later confirmed his identity. The arrest ended a nationwide search that involved investigators from multiple jurisdictions and the U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task forces in both the Greater Idaho and Middle District of Florida regions.

Fischer was originally arrested in January 2022 by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Department in Florida. He was charged with Traveling to Meet a Minor after using a computer to lure a child for sexual purposes. At the time of his arrest, Fischer was found in possession of condoms, lubricant, rope, narcotics, and other sexual items.

While out on bond, Fischer attended part of his trial in February 2024 but failed to appear on the second day. He was convicted in absentia, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of Failure to Appear. Florida authorities have been awaiting his return for formal sentencing.

On October 22, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Service Greater Idaho Fugitive Task Force attempted to arrest Fischer in Athol, Idaho, based on the outstanding warrant. Fischer fled the area near Kelso Lake Road and remained at large until this week.
