KITTITAS COUNTY, WA – A juvenile was killed and eight others were injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash Saturday morning on Interstate 90, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. near milepost 95, about 11 miles west of Ellensburg. Troopers said the driver of a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe, 30-year-old Francisco Villegas Casarez of Seattle, suffered an unknown medical emergency while traveling westbound. The vehicle left the roadway and rolled.
One juvenile passenger, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene. The Washington State Patrol reported the juvenile was not wearing a seatbelt.
Eight other occupants of the vehicle, including multiple juveniles, were transported to area hospitals. Villegas Casarez was taken to Kittitas Valley Healthcare. A 37-year-old passenger, Heather N. Buckman of Seattle, was transported to Harborview Medical Center. The remaining injured passengers—all juveniles—were also taken to Kittitas Valley Healthcare. Police say only the driver was wearing a seatbelt.
Drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash. The vehicle was declared totaled and removed.
