BOISE, ID – Idaho drivers are seeing only a modest increase at the gas pump this week, but AAA Idaho warns that travel-heavy areas could soon see sharper price hikes as summer tourism continues.
The state’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline rose by just one cent from last week, reaching $3.48. That figure is 10 cents higher than a month ago but remains 11 cents lower than this time last year. Some locations are already experiencing steeper weekly increases, with Franklin seeing a six-cent jump and Idaho Falls rising by four cents.
“Some parts of Idaho are major jumping off points for popular tourist attractions like Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Jackson Hole, and Bear Lake,” said AAA Idaho public affairs director Matthew Conde. “Whether driving to or through our state, it could be another busy week for vehicle travel as families log plenty of miles to complete their vacations.”
The national average currently sits at $3.14 per gallon, slightly down from last week and 36 cents cheaper than a year ago. Despite this, Idaho ranks as the seventh most expensive state in the country for fuel.
National fuel inventories show mixed trends. According to the Energy Information Administration, gasoline supplies rose by 3 million barrels, while crude oil stocks fell by 4 million barrels. Refinery output remains high, operating at 94% capacity, and recent high temperatures and the start of hurricane season have yet to disrupt production significantly.
“Refineries are holding steady, which is a relief,” said Conde. “But if supply tightens due to weather or other disruptions, prices could climb quickly.”
Crude oil prices have remained stable, with the West Texas Intermediate benchmark holding near $66 per barrel — the same as last week and $2 below last month. Since crude accounts for over half of the cost of finished gasoline, this stability has helped keep pump prices from rising further.

- Franklin: $3.31
- Idaho Falls: $3.45
- Lewiston: $3.29
