MOSCOW, ID – City of Moscow officials released a statement Tuesday following the sentencing of Bryan Kohberger for the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students, calling the outcome a step toward closure for the victims’ families and the community.

“This case was about four young lives lost too soon,” said Moscow Police Chief Anthony Dahlinger. “We never lost sight of that. I’m proud of the work our officers have done and grateful for the support of our local, state, and federal partners. Our community showed strength and resolve, and we hope the conclusion of this case provides some measure of peace.”

Latah County Prosecuting Attorney Bill Thompson said justice was the central focus from the beginning. “While nothing can undo the pain endured by the families of Kaylee, Madison, Xana, and Ethan, we hope today’s outcome reaffirms that the rule of law prevails in Idaho and that justice was fully and fairly served.”

With the criminal proceedings complete, the City of Moscow will begin releasing investigative materials from the case, as permitted under Idaho law. Records will be made publicly available at no cost through the city’s website: www.ci.moscow.id.us/1165/Kohberger-Investigation-Documents.

City officials noted the volume of records is substantial and each document must be carefully reviewed and redacted to protect personal privacy and comply with legal restrictions. Records not posted online may be requested through the Moscow Police Department’s public records portal.

Kohberger was arrested in December 2022 and later convicted in the stabbing deaths of four students in an off-campus home in Moscow. He was sentenced earlier this month.
