KOOTENAI COUNTY, ID – A structure fire early Tuesday morning claimed one life and left four others injured near Coeur d’Alene.
According to the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded at approximately 7:15 a.m. on July 22 to a report of a fully engulfed fire in the 3000 block of N. 15th Street. Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, and sheriff’s deputies arrived to find a pole building consumed by flames.
Officials determined a family had been living in a recreational vehicle (RV) situated inside the building. Four individuals were located outside the structure with moderate to severe burns and were treated by emergency personnel.
A fifth person, an adult female, was unable to escape and was found deceased inside the residence.
Authorities have not released the names of the victims at this time out of respect for the families.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office in coordination with fire marshals.
