JEROME, ID – Idaho State Police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday evening, July 22, south of Rupert.
The crash took place at approximately 9:00 p.m. on 300 S and 20 E. An 18-year-old male from Rupert was traveling southbound on an irrigation canal access road on a Kawasaki KX450 dirt bike when the bike collided with a parked Minidoka County Sheriff’s patrol vehicle. A sheriff’s deputy was outside the patrol vehicle at the time of the collision.
The dirt bike rider, who was wearing a helmet, sustained critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sheriff’s deputy was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital.
Both directions of 300 S were blocked for about three hours while emergency crews responded.
Idaho State Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Agencies assisting at the scene included the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office, Rupert Police Department, Heyburn Fire Department, Eastern Fire Department, Heyburn Quick Response Unit, Eastern Quick Response Unit, Life Flight, and Emergency Response 1.
