MOSCOW, ID – The City of Moscow, in collaboration with the Moscow Arts Commission (MAC), is inviting community members to help shape the future of public art in the city by providing input on the theme of a potential mural installation. The mural is being considered for the Polk Street-facing side of the new City Shop facility, which is currently under construction and expected to be completed in 2026.

A brief online survey is open to the public through 5 p.m. on August 1, 2025, allowing residents to share ideas and preferences that will help the MAC develop a proposal to present to the Moscow City Council.

The project reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to public art as a central part of Moscow’s creative culture. With over 220 temporary and permanent works, Moscow’s public art program celebrates the Inland Northwest’s artistic heritage while fostering community identity and engagement.

The mural would be one of the latest additions to a collection that includes sculptures, murals, framed artworks, and innovative installations like vinyl-wrapped utility boxes and sculptural bus shelters. The City’s public art efforts are supported by the 1%-for-the-Arts fund, established in 2004, and guided by a Public Art Master Plan adopted in 2015.

Since its founding in 1978, the Moscow Arts Commission has played a key role in cultivating a vibrant arts scene through initiatives such as the Third Street Gallery, the Mayor’s Arts Awards, and the Moscow Poet Laureate program.

Residents are encouraged to participate in the mural survey and learn more about the City Shop construction and public art program by visiting the City of Moscow’s website.
