BONNERS FERRY, ID – A multi-agency patrol led by the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office has resulted in the seizure of over 100 gallons of berries believed to be harvested illegally for commercial purposes in remote wilderness areas.
The joint operation, conducted in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Border Patrol, and Kootenai Tribe of Idaho Law Enforcement, was aimed at protecting recreational users and natural resources in Boundary County. The patrol targeted remote trails and forested areas, providing safety assistance, addressing violations, and educating the public on safe outdoor practices.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the individuals believed responsible for the illegal berry harvesting are suspected to be the same men who fled from U.S. Border Patrol agents earlier in the week. The seizure is expected to support the Border Patrol’s ongoing investigation.
“This was a strong and coordinated response to an issue that threatens both public safety and the integrity of our backcountry,” said Boundary County Sheriff Travis Stolley. “With the help of our partners and grant support from the Forest Service, we were able to take meaningful action.”
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of lawful recreation and encourages the public to stay on marked trails, carry essential supplies, and report suspicious activity.
