SANTA, ID — A bridge replacement project began Monday on State Highway 3, just north of the junction with State Highway 6, approximately 13 miles southeast of St. Maries, Idaho. Drivers should plan for lane restrictions and delays throughout the summer.

The bridge, originally built in 1934, is being replaced due to age and ongoing maintenance needs. The $2 million Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) project aims to improve safety and functionality along this important route used daily by freight and logging traffic.

During construction:

The new bridge will support heavier loads and accommodate increased traffic. Roadway improvements include 5-foot shoulders and updated guardrails for enhanced safety.

“These updates are vital for ensuring the long-term safety and reliability of the route, especially for the freight and logging industries that rely on it every day,” said Project Manager Jacob Edlund.

The project is scheduled to be completed by late fall. For the latest travel updates, drivers can visit 511.idaho.gov.
