PULLMAN, WA – The pedestrian bridge over the South Fork of the Palouse River in downtown Pullman is scheduled to be reset back on its footings on Tuesday.
The bridge has been closed since February’s flood when the high water dislodged the span just off the abutments. The Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge was designed to float to the side of the river during flooding. February’s high water was the first time the design was tested since the bridge was installed about 20 years ago.
Wasankari Construction in Moscow has been hired by the City of Pullman to lift the bridge back into place. Crews are working today to prepare for the move. The Pine Street Plaza and the Riverwalk on the North side of the bridge will be closed tomorrow for the lift.
The plaza is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday. The bridge will have to pass final inspection and rock armoring work under the span will take place next week. Once this final phase is complete the Pine Street Pedestrian Bridge will reopen. City officials hope the span will be back open by the end of next month.
