SPOKANE, WA — A manhunt spanning more than three years has come to a close following the identification of skeletal remains discovered in Spokane as those of Dylan Harrington, the suspect in the 2022 murders of an elderly couple in Okanogan County.

On July 22, 2025, the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office contacted Chief Criminal Deputy Jodie Barcus to report that remains found in April at a homeless encampment in Spokane had produced a DNA match through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS). That match connected the remains to DNA collected at the scene where 80-year-old David Covey and 66-year-old Gerlyn Covey were found murdered on their rural property near Chesaw in February 2022.

According to previous statements from law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Service, Harrington, then 27, was believed to have been squatting near the Covey property and stealing supplies. After allegedly killing the couple, he reportedly attempted to burn and conceal their bodies under plywood. The Coveys were reported missing after their truck was found abandoned on February 13, 2022, and their bodies were discovered three days later.

Harrington had been wanted on two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of unauthorized removal or concealment of a body. He was considered armed and dangerous, and a reward of up to $5,000 had been offered for information leading to his arrest.

On July 23, 2025, Okanogan County detectives met with Harrington’s mother and brother, both of whom provided voluntary DNA samples. Dental records were also obtained for comparison. The next day, the Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the remains were those of Dylan Harrington.

“The multiple year manhunt for Harrington is over,” the Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office stated. “We thank all the agencies involved in this investigation, the media, and everyone who submitted tips. Our greatest hope is that the Covey family can move forward with some sense of closure.”

Authorities have not released a cause of death for Harrington, nor have they indicated how long the remains had been at the Spokane encampment.
