SPOKANE, WA — Clearwater Paper Corporation reported improved financial results for the second quarter of 2025, driven by increased shipment volume, operational efficiency, and reduced fixed costs.

The company recorded net sales of $392 million for the quarter ending June 30, up 14% from the same period in 2024. The gain was primarily attributed to the May 2024 acquisition of its Augusta, Georgia paperboard mill.

Clearwater Paper reported net income from continuing operations of $4 million, or $0.22 per diluted share, compared to a net loss of $42 million, or $2.50 per diluted share, in the second quarter of 2024. Total net income, which includes discontinued operations, was $2.7 million, or $0.17 per diluted share.

Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter rose to $40 million, a significant improvement from negative $9 million in the same period last year.

“Our team delivered a strong second quarter in line with expectations—higher shipments, higher production, and lower fixed costs,” said President and CEO Arsen Kitch. “We continue to focus on what we can control to navigate this industry down cycle.”

Sales volume rose to 304,713 tons, a 12% increase over the same quarter last year, while the average net selling price for paperboard declined 3% to $1,182 per ton.

During the quarter, Clearwater Paper completed a major maintenance outage at its Cypress Bend, Arkansas facility and repurchased $4 million in outstanding shares, bringing total buybacks to $15 million for the first half of the year.

For the first six months of 2025, the company reported net sales of $770 million and a net loss from continuing operations of $2 million, or $0.14 per diluted share—an improvement from a $44 million loss during the same period in 2024.

Executives reaffirmed their goal to achieve $30–$40 million in fixed cost reductions by the end of 2025.
